Winter Engagement Session in Banff
Here in the Canadian Rockies, there are plenty of scenic winter locations and options for you to get your engagement photos taken in. This winter engagement session was taken at Two Jack Lake in Banff National Park. It was only about 10 degrees celsuis on a fine April evening, but being in the mountains, it was a little bit chillier due to the winds. If you decide to have your engagement photoshoot in the winter, definitely dress warmly by bringing multiple layers. You can always take off layers and these can add a variety in your photos. I also kept an eye on the weather to make sure we weren’t going to get snowed in, and was prepared to reschedule if the weather didn’t cooperate. Luckily, we had just missed the snowfall and got to the lake with a beautiful white sheet of snow.
The couple wanted a location in the mountains where they could bring their dog for the photos and ended up choosing this spot in Banff as their photoshoot location. Their dog was very energetic to be outdoors (especially after an hour ride from Calgary) and we lucky to come on a Sunday evening we had the entire place to ourselves. I always encourage couples to bring their pets along for their session if they can because not only will you get professional photos WITH your pet, but it can also shake off any nervousness jumping in front of a camera for the first time. We started off this session with the dog so that the couple could relax and essentially treat the moment like they were on just another walk.
After a few photos with their dog, we jumped into doing couple portraits with the beautiful snow-capped mountains in the background.
We planned for the session to be around golden hour so that we would get a nice, moody vibe that compliments my signature style.
