Vermilion Lakes Surprise Proposal
T had reached out to me a few weeks before his trip to Banff with his girlfriend. He already had an idea of what he wanted for his proposal - they were staying in Canmore and he made a reservation for dinner in Banff. They would stop by Vermilion Lakes on the way into town to take in some of the mountain scenery - and I would happen to already be there.
As a Banff proposal photographer, I help with planning your proposal down to the smallest detail. From the approach of the proposal, the best proposal spot, where to park, and all of the timing intricacies. Many of my proposal enquiries come from abroad, so I also assist with providing local restaurant and location recommendations.
Vermilion Lakes is a cluster of lakes with a panoramic view of the mountains in Banff National Park. It’s not as busy as the iconic Lake Louise or Moraine Lake, and it’s close to the Town of Banff, making it a nice quick stop on your way into town. Vermilion Lakes has multiple docks, so I sent T direct pin of which dock had a nicer view. It would be awkward to not show up at the proper location, so I always make sure to send a Google Map pin!
As with all proposals, I showed up earlier than the proposal time to scout the area and make sure the designated spot was clear from tourists. This surprise proposal was on a Wednesday evening and there were maybe 5 groups of people passing through the dock. When it came closer to the proposal time, I approached some of the other tourists and asked to clear the space once a dressed up couple arrived. Luckily everyone was understanding and all left immediately after snapping a few photos. You definitely don’t get the chance to have an entire lakeview to yourself when it comes to the more popular lakes, so this was a treat!
