Lake Minnewanka Couples Adventure Photos in Banff National Park
Lake Minnewanka is one of my favorite spots for couple portraits because we get the beauty of having a mountain + lake backdrop without the crowds of the notable Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Lake Minnewanka has long shoreline, and further down it’s all lined with trees, so even if you get photos done on a busy day, you can always escape into the tree line. Having backdrop options at one location is such a gem as a photographer, especially in the mountains where you often have to travel far to get to another spot!
One this particular September day, the sun was starting to get high and bright - and direct sun and harsh shadows aren’t the most flattering on subjects. The trees provided nice shade to avoid squinting eyes and made this whole session seem more like an adventure! We also played around with the harsh shadows to outline the subjects, and you can even peek Mount Inglismaldie in the background! Once the sun was covered by some clouds, we quickly made it to the rocks near the lake to grab some photos before the sun came out again.
As a Banff couples photographer, I always try to keep you moving and focused on your partner throughout our session. Lake Minnewanka is a very large lake with a lot of space to work with, and so this allows for wide shots, running, and more “fun” movement photos. In addition to the variety of backdrops, there are certain areas of the lake where you can have a bit more privacy if you’re worried about crowds. There’s something for everyone at this lake!
