Best Locations for Engagement Photos in Banff, AB
Banff is one of the most scenic locations in Canada and sometimes we forget that it’s in our own backyard! I’m based in Calgary, AB which means it’s only a short trip away from the mountains! One of the beauties of the Canadian Rockies is that all of these locations listed are photogenic no matter what season you’re visiting.
I offer Adventure Engagement Sessions in the mountains for couples who want a change of scenery and want to be surrounded by nature. Whether you’re from Alberta or you’re a visitor from a far, there’s no place like Banff National Park.
These are the best locations for engagement photos in Banff, Alberta, Canada!
Lake Louise
Nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, you can’t name Banff National Park without thinking of Lake Louise. This alpine lake is renowned for its turquoise-blue waters, surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks and dense pine forests.
It’s an absolute beauty no matter what season you’re visiting. Fair warning though - parking can be a nightmare. But if you can handle the crowds and don’t mind the company of tourists, Lake Louise is a beautiful backdrop for engagement photos.
2. Moraine Lake
Not too far from Lake Louise situates Moraine Lake. It’s a glacially-fed lake with the iconic turquoise waters framed by rugged mountain peaks and dense pine forests all around. Often found on many Canadian postcards, it’s an absolute breathtaking viewpoint of the Canadian Rockies.
To get to Moraine Lake, you need to book a shuttle in advanced as they do not allow personal vehicles. If planned ahead, this is a perfect, romantic location for your engagement photos!
3. Lake Minnewanka
If you want to step away from the tourist-heavy locations of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, Lake Minnewanka is the place for you. Only a short drive from Canmore, Alberta, the lake stretches over 21 kilometers in length, making it one of the largest lakes in the Canadian Rockies. The name "Minnewanka" is derived from the Stoney Nakoda First Nations language, meaning "Water of the Spirits."
Lake Minnewanka is one of my favorite locations for engagement photos because sometimes, depending on the time of year and day, you can have the entire view to yourselves. If you have some time, check out Two Jack Lake just down the road!
4. Two Jack Lake
Only steps away from Lake Minnewanka, Two Jack Lake is a serene alpine lake surrounded by evergreen forests and majestic mountain peaks. The crystal-clear waters are safe for you or your dog to jump in, and reflect the most stunning landscapes. You can also bring a canoe or kayak into the water!
I personally recommend sunrise or sunset as the best time of day to visit Two Jack Lake. Imagine this backdrop for your engagement photos!
